Your engagement party isn't just a celebration; it's a joyful prelude to the lifelong adventure of marriage. This is the time to cherish your love and commitment with friends and family. While engagement parties come in all shapes and sizes, there's something truly magical about celebrating in a garden or backyard. These intimate gatherings bring you closer to nature and your loved ones.
In a fast-paced world, these parties give you a chance to slow down, breathe in the fresh air, and savor the beauty of togetherness. Many newly engaged couples now prefer these garden affairs for their simplicity and authenticity. If you're planning an engagement celebration, consider the charm of an outdoor celebration. Gardens provide the perfect backdrop to paint the early strokes of your lifelong love story.
Embracing the Charm of a Garden Engagement Party
An engagement party is a heartfelt celebration of your love and commitment. It's a time to gather with close friends and family, marking the beginning of your journey toward marriage.
A garden engagement takes this celebration and places it in the heart of nature. Picture blooming flowers, dappled sunlight, and a gentle breeze. The choice of season plays a significant role in the garden party's success. Spring and summer are ideal for blooming florals and warm evenings, while autumn and winter provide a cozy, rustic atmosphere.
As the sun sets and the garden comes alive with the glow of string lights, your guests share stories and laughter. Garden engagement parties are adaptable and ready to
match your chosen theme and colors. They are the epitome of romance and are the perfect canvas for your love story!
An Enchanted Affair: Garden Engagement Party Ideas
Throwing an engagement party may seem taxing, but with these tips, you can pull it off effortlessly. Gardens provide a naturally beautiful backdrop, making them the perfect setting for celebrating your engagement.
Explore these garden-inspired suggestions to make your celebration a magical experience for you and your engagement party guests.
1. Engagement Party Invitations
Opt for designs featuring blooming flowers, greenery, or even watercolor depictions of gardens. Personalize them with your engagement photos or charming garden-themed graphics. Handwritten details on each invitation will add a touch of elegance.
Make sure to include the address and any specific directions to the garden venue, ensuring your guests arrive without a hitch. Encourage guests to RSVP digitally or on your wedding website to reduce paper usage.
2. Engagement Party Dresses
For the couple, choosing the perfect attire is part of the excitement. The bride-to-be can opt for a garden-inspired dress with flowing silhouettes, floral patterns, or lace details. Light and breathable fabrics, such as chiffon or lace, are ideal for outdoor settings.
The groom can complement this with a light-colored suit, perhaps in shades of beige or grey. Encourage your party guests to wear a garden party dress code, making your celebration even more immersive.
3. Engagement Party Gifts
While gifts may not be the focus of an engagement celebration, some guests may choose to bring tokens of their best wishes. Consider garden-related gifts such as potted plants or flower seeds, which symbolize growth and the blossoming of love. As a couple, you can express your gratitude by preparing small favors, like customized garden-themed candles or sachets.
4. Food and Drinks
Enhance the garden engagement experience with a delightful spread of food and drinks. Opt for a casual yet elegant vibe with a garden picnic, featuring finger foods like mini sandwiches, fresh fruit, and cheese platters.
Add a personalized touch by serving a signature cocktail or mocktail that reflects your love story. A refreshing elderflower spritz or a minty cucumber cooler can be delightful choices. Make sure to have a selection of beverages, including non-alcoholic options, to cater to all guests.
Creating a Whimsical Garden Oasis
To craft a garden engagement party, start with a greenery panel for walls. These lush panels serve as the perfect backdrop for your celebration, adding a touch of enchantment to your outdoor space. You can even adorn them with fairy lights or hanging flowers for a dreamy effect.
Next, lay down a yellow satin tablecloth on your dining tables. This choice of tablecloth complements the garden setting beautifully, bringing in a warm and inviting ambiance. Drape the vibrant tablecloth diagonally across your tables to enhance the look of your dinner party.
For a final flourish, olive green runners make an ideal addition. Lay these runners down the center of your tables, weaving through your table settings. The earthy tone of olive green harmonizes with the natural backdrop, giving your tables a rustic yet elegant feel.
By integrating these engagement party decorations when you plan an engagement party, you can transform your garden into an enchanting space. These elements work together to create a visually stunning and harmonious celebration that you and your guests will remember fondly.
Where to Find Your Dream Event Supplies
When it comes to engagement or even wedding planning, choosing the right event supplies is essential. JD loves a grand wedding celebration and this couple did not disappoint with a party reception at 701 Whaley! The Emerald Empire Band dazzled guests with their soulful vocals and melodies. The Grand Hall looked stunning decked out in a colorful summer design of macrame hanging terra cotta florals and vibrant center pieces in a variety of vase styles. Crisp Event Rentals provided the specialty linens in tulips print for the bridal party; styled with tapered colorful candles in a long, banquet table. The couple, Christina and Greg, lived in Alabama and needed a wedding planner in Columbia to handle all the details. Christina's home is Lexington, SC, and she naturally wished to be married at home.
The couple wed at Christina's home church, First Baptist Church of Lexington. With families and friends coming in from Alabama and other states, the couple utilized The Sheraton Downtown Columbia and The Marriott, centrally located off Main Street. The gracious hospitality of this couple shined through in every selection they made, starting with top shelf liquor brands, hand-rolled sushi, and tomahawk steak topped with a white sauce delivered straight from Alabama for their pork sliders. Southern Way provided the catering and it was excellent food fare. The couple also had a center piece ice sculpture made by Artisan Ice Sculptures out of Charlotte, NC. And let's not forget the unforgettable gorgeous cake designed by Bonnie Brunt Cakes. The cake was adorned with whimsical florals, both colorful and beautiful, with buttercream icing in a stucco finish. The couple made sure guests were safely delivered back to their hotel destinations using Southern Valet. The sendoff was spectacular, and colorful, with ribbon wands and a classic red car presented by Palmetto A's of SC.
The photographer, Jessica Hunt Photography, captured the joy and festivities so well. The vibrant color choices reflected Christina's Korean background and truly shined in these images of their wedding day. Joan Day Weddings wishes Christina and Greg the best life has to offer!

Nykole and Jimmy planned their wedding during the COVID-19 global pandemic. This caused a bit of stress and last minute rearranging of guests and how many persons could attend the indoors reception, due to capacity restrictions. The venue was great to help us figure these contingencies out. Their wedding went on, as planned, and even held on its original date. Nykole selected a color palette of blush, light blue, and Carolina blue. She is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill's Medical School and wanted to showcase her school's colors. The bridesmaids were dressed to the nine's in a Carolina blue full length style gown. The groom and groomsmen wore light gray suits from Mens Warehouse.
Since the wedding ceremony was held outside, all guests were able to attend. The bride opted to reduce her guest count for the late evening reception, following recommendations from the CDC. To assist with the social distancing, we placed guests at dining tables, per Household. Guests' temperatures were taken upon arrival, and facial masks were provided. Despite the facial masks, everyone had a great time!

Amy and Henry's Leap Year wedding was nothing less than spectacular! The head table was comprised of three eight-foot tables with a suspended cascading florals overhead, created by American Floral. The fragrance from these florals was so amazing. The catering spread offered by these amazing hosts was to die for ... beginning with an oyster bar during cocktail and then a gourmet plated dinner. With table garlands, floating candles, and personalized place cards all guests felt a sense of welcome and joy to be a part of this lovely wedding.

In the lovely 1208 Washington Place grand ballroom, Erin and Andrew, welcomed guests to their celebratory reception. The ceremony was held at The Rutledge Chapel on USC's campus, and guests were transported from The Sheraton to the ceremony and then back to 1208 Washington Place (just across the street from The Sheraton ... super convenient). The bride selected a Celtic theme of deep teal-green and creamy white flowers designed by Something Special Florist. The guests enjoyed dining and dancing throughout the evening. The couple had a ribbons and bells sendoff as traditional in Irish weddings.

This winter Christmas wedding was held only days before Christmas. It made the perfect gathering spot for family celebrations during the holiday season. Both families and most guests were from out of state. All wedding planning was done remotely and there was a great deal of logistics involved getting everyone in town, to-and-from, each wedding event. Southern Valet was a huge help in this department. Morgan and Nick selected a cranberry-burgundy and gold color scheme for their love of USC Gamecocks. The bride looked stunning in her strapless gown and winter fur wrap. The affair was held at the Capital City Club with dancing and merriment through the night. Sparkler send-off on Main St. to boot!

Claire and Cole hosted a fabulous wedding at 701 Whaley, hosting their wedding ceremony in the Olympia Room and The Grand Hall for the reception. The bride chose a classic, elegant color palette and decor for her winter wedding. Heavy greenery, intermingled with candles and creamy blossoms filled the guest tables. The ceremony was gorgeous featuring a wooden cross with a spray of florals by Chastain's Floral, and light draping for a softening effect. The Grand Hall was decked out with luxury linens, high top floral arrangements, hurricane lighting in all windows, and greenery showcasing the staircase. This Intimate Elopement Mini was held at the Toler's Cove Clubhouse in Mt. Pleasant, SC. The groom's uncle lived at Toler's Cove and graciously hosted the affair. This young couple, Tessa and Buchanan, headed off to basic for the US Air Force, and that left us short on time for planning. We located all of the essential vendors and location in less than six months time. Two family friends joined forces to provide catering and florals.
