My husband, Tim, and I had a working relationship long before we became romantic and decided to become partners for life. We thrive off of each other's energy. It's an amazing combination and one I am truly thankful to have. With each of us bringing two kids into our marriage, we are constantly cooking and grocery shopping. Our children's ages range from 15 to 21. It's wide open! I love being a mom and wife. Family and being around the table is where we spend a great deal of time.
My two were just two years old and just shy of five years old when I established Joan Day Weddings. It's hard to believe that so much time has passed. The beginning of my weddings and events business was centered on my promise to be a stay-at-home mother, and focus on child-rearing during the most formidable years. I'm so thankful that I did. Through weddings, I have met such special and unique families. Countless weddings over the years with one very common theme ... Love and Family.
I am in my mid-40's and loving my life. I have a wonderful husband who fills my soul with love, laughter, and encouragement. His strong character attributes nourish my creative abilities. Tim is my personal sounding-board. I thrive when exploring new projects because of the honesty exchanged between us. He makes me laugh. A lot!
I truly enjoy doing for others. My events planning endeavors have always provided an excellent outlet for my passions. I find inspiration in serving others, my children, gorgeous fabrics, paint colors, interesting people, fashion, music, nature, and of course, animals. I have a Dachshund, Bentley, and a little Calico named Stella Rosa. Yes, guilty! We named her after our favorite house wine. I enjoy working on things from beginning to end, taking time to go through the creative process, problem-solving, and coming up with an awesome end product. I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and all-round people person. I enjoy bringing joy to others. That's my God-given gift. Through my gift of hospitality, I help others host!
My inspiration for much of my design work centers around a common theme and philosophy. This design is a traditional one that is still wildly popular to this day. It's the Desert Rose pattern by Franciscan. Desert Rose was an every day use item at my grandmother's home. My grandmother, Emily Sue McConnell, served many holiday and special occasion meals on this china set. With its pops of happy colors, desert rose, sunshine, avocado and cream, the ground-breaking pattern took hold as the new casual tableware in 1941. A unique, all-American pattern that did not follow the traditional European bone china. It became one of the largest selling casual tableware patterns in history. I fortunately have a hostess splendor of it, as my grandmother was the quintessential hostess. Emily Sue was the perfect example of grace, welcome, and acceptance.
My grandmother was a delight. She never said a cross word about anyone. The chair featured here was in my grandparent's home. I have found memories centering around this chair. When I inherited it, I designed a pattern of varying fabrics that carried the Desert Rose theme. I call this chair, my "happy chair." My grandmother had a significant impact on everyone she met. I am thankful for the amazing woman that she was and the positive influence she continues to have, even beyond our family. Through my business, I share little bits of Emily Sue with those I serve.
What fills Meredith with joy
JD doesn't get things done without a little help. Our team is made better with the addition of Meredith Mills; a student at the University of South Carolina. She is a Hospitality Management student and hopes to go into event planning. JD is thrilled to have her talents and fresh perspective. Meredith has a keen eye for details, and last minute fixes to resolve issues that arise during an event. We are so excited to have her on board as an associate planner. She's got a great eye for details, thinks quick on her feet, which is awesome for events management.
Hi, my name is Meredith Mills! I'm a student at the University of South Carolina where I am studying Hospitality Management. I'm hoping to go into event planning in my future as well, and am so excited to have the opportunity to learn about the details and workings of the industry from Joan! I grew up in Irmo, SC, but Nashville, TN is home now which I absolutely love! Some of my favorite things to do are take my dog Scout on walks and hikes, or going to get coffee with friends. I'm so excited to see where my future will take me, and am hoping to end up doing wedding planning too someday!
Meredith spends a great deal of time with her best friend, Scout. Scout is a big-sized dog, mixture of many breeds. The two are seen along the riverfront taking long walks and enjoying fresh air. Meredith has a friend for life in Scout. She goes pretty much every where Meredith goes, as long as four-legged furry friends are allowed.
Like most college students, Meredith spends much of her time studying and preparing for exams, papers and other assigned projects. Her work with JD is mainly focused on day-of events, setup and carrying out decor setup. She is focusing efforts on learning the behind the scenes tasks that are carried out to make an event run smoothly. She is also expending her talents on social media and getting the word out about JD's Wedding Thread Club.

On your big day, the JD Team will deliver an amazing experience for you and yours by fulfilling the smallest, yet most important details.
